Some of you will already know that I work as a genealogist in Scotland – my
hobby obsession turned into my Dream Job and I feel very fortunate that I am able to support myself financially while doing something that I LOVE every day. In these ever-changing times with ever-more complicated technology, it is difficult keeping up, but keep up we must.
Over Christmas, I ran a critical eye over my current website Scottish Genealogist.com as I felt it may be difficult for clients to navigate and understand. It has grown and evolved, and while it makes sense to me, I think I may have over-complicated things by trying to give as much information as possible. I know that I find “too much information” overwhelming And no one wants to read huge screeds of text!
So, I now have a simple “Low Fat” version available at Scottish Genealogist.co.uk which only gives the very basics and encourages people to contact me with their ancestral requirements. As all families are different, and few fit into a “package”, most clients have to contact me with their specific requests anyway, and at that point I can advise them on the best way forward. The Low Fat Website encourages contact without all the extra technical genealogy-speak. (They’re not my feet, by the way – they’re Microsoft’s feet)
I’d appreciate any comments that you have on the new site – does it give enough information, is there anything missing that you would like to see, is there anything which could be made simpler, and anything else you would like to comment on. You know what it’s like when you ask your Mum – she just says “It’s lovely, darling” regardless – I need a proper critique!
All comments will be gratefully received – don’t hold back, as I need Realistic Input, so I won’t be in the slightest bit offended (no Facebook Peeps will be Unfriended as a result!)
Thank you in advance and I await your comments
