For Sepia Saturday this week, I scanned another photo from Great Granny’s album. At first glance, compared to the other images of silly antics and general high jinks, this photo didn’t seem to have much going for it, however on close inspection, you can almost feel the fun between the two of them.
I don’t know who Granny’s unknown friend or relative is (yet) but he’s obviously someone she feels close to, judging by the way she’s holding his arm. He has his hand on his heart – I wonder what he was thinking? They both look a bit crumpled.
Here’s a more recent photo (1964) of Granny at the age of 55, my Dad and Yours Truly.
Have a close look at what my Mum did to my hair! The cheek of it. That’s my Mum up in the banner with me in my racing pram. I remember that hideous kitchen wallpaper – we had it for years, but sadly we only had Granny for another 3 years, so I’m getting to know her better through the Album and feel very lucky to have it 🙂

Great photos. You are right, you can almost feel the fun. It has the same feel about as it as the one of the photos I used for last week’s Sepia Saturday.
That is a great photo of your granny and the anonymous friend. Too bad you couldn’t get rid of the wallpaper and keep your granny.
I think my mother did something similar to my hair. Now the wallpaper is beyond hideous–it’s “retro.”
There were a lot of wallpapers like that in the 60s. You don’t see many prams like your racing pram these days – you would never get them in a car!

That is indeed a fine photo of Granny and friend. I have a photo of my Grandmother’s old boyfriend when he was in the Navy. It’s very strange contemplating someone other than my Granddaddy.
That is such a wonderful photo. It’s positively heartwarming.
That first photograph is a perfect example of how photographs can say so much. That look between your granny and her friend/relative is classic. You couldn’t fake that – there is real affection and friendship there.
I agree with Postcardy, that wallpaper is now “retro” and probably highly desireable in some quarters. 🙂

That’s really sad, to discover that your fun-loving granny died at what I suppose was quite a young age. How lovely to have her album, and shots like that first one, where some clever person captured the moment perfectly.
Your granny looks like fun, with a twinkle in her eye. The first photo has such warmth and affection.
Your Gram is beaming..and her face always shows so much personality..these two shared at the minimum a private joke.
Look at all that hair..my goodness you have a beautiful curl..I used to do the same thing to my sisters long hair.
That last photo is a real treasure..I do not have one from my baptismal day..I assume that is the occasion of your photo:)
