Beautiful bride – Wedding Wednesday #genealogy

Ian Hardie & Alice Robertson Wedding 1933

Left to right – Unknown, Granny, Ian, Alice, Unknown, Frank.

Here’s a photo I have – isn’t the Bride gorgeous?  No wonder the Groom looks so happy!  I love her head-dress and she seems to be holding a Bible rather than a bouquet.  Auntie was able to confirm the names for me, and if I have “cousins” in South Africa who find me through this blog, I’d be delighted to hear from you.  This is the wedding photo of Ian Hardie (John Auchmuty Hardie) and Alice Mary Robertson, which took place on 14 June 1933 at East Church, Queen Street, Broughty Ferry, Angus.

When I discussed this photo with Auntie, I noted on the back “Granny, bridesmaid to Ian Hardie (worked at Briggs Jute in Dundee, went to South Africa, his parents were David Hardie and Mary Auchmuty).  Granny was like a sister to Ian – she went to live with them at New Farm, Errol as a companion to Mary and to cook etc.”  This is how Granny met my Grandfather – by moving to Errol, Perthshire, where his father also farmed.

The man on right is Frank Hardie (Ian’s brother, William Francis Hardie).  Ian regularly wrote to my Great Auntie Chrissie (Granny’s sister, who never married) – I have a letter dated 28 Feb 1995, when they both would have been elderly – they kept in touch over their lifetimes, which is not surprising, considering how close the two families were.

I suspect the Hardie boys feature in Great Granny’s album of family fun 🙂  See the Cloud Tag on the right for other related posts!
